Dr. Lucy M. Guglielmino developed the Self-Directed Learning Readidness Scale ( SDLRS) in 1978 to measure the complex of attitudes, abilities and characteristics which comprise readiness to engage in self-directed learning. The SDLRS has been used by more than 500 major organizations from around the world. More than 250,000 adults and 10,000 children have taken the SDLRS. It is the most widely used instrument of its kind in the world and it has been translated into more than 20 languages including Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Arabic, Polish, Russian, Finnish and Lithuanian. The SDLRS has an extensive bibliography of research. The Bibliography of Research contains research citations by author, title, publication and year. More than 100 doctoral dissertations have been completed from Universities throughout the world using the SDLRS.

The instrument is now available to be taken online in English. This is the most cost effective way of using the SDLRS since it is scored immediately upon being completed and there is no cost or delay in shipping forms and answer sheets back and forth. Paper forms are still available in English as well as other languages if they are required.
